Stop Human Trafficking: Community Awareness Event – January 21, 2025

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and Soroptimists Together Against Trafficking invites the community to attend a free awareness panel focused on education, prevention, and survivor support.

This powerful event will feature a special presentation from a survivor, along with insights from leaders in law enforcement, advocacy, and prevention who are actively working to combat human trafficking in our region.

Panelists include:

  • Detective Jamal Labe – Special Crimes Unit / Intel, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office
  • Shannon Sergey – Founder and CEO, Forever Found
  • Rebecca Bender – CEO & Co-Founder, Bender Initiative and Elevate Academy
  • Chief Steve Shorts – Simi Valley Police Department
  • Twyla Atmore – Deputy District Attorney, Ventura County

Together, these speakers will shed light on how trafficking occurs, who is most vulnerable, and what communities can do to recognize warning signs and take action.
